The Challenge
- Forty-six million Americans lacked health care coverage in 2007, when the national employment level peaked and before the current economic recession officially began. Today, that number is markedly higher as many workers who have lost their jobs have also lost their employer-provided health insurance. — Center for American Progress
- People without health insurance are less likely to have a usual doctor and often go without screenings or preventative care. — Families USA
- 686,000 Iowans — about 1 in 4 under age 65 — were without health insurance at some point during 2007-2008. — Families USA
