Iowa Ranks 2nd Nationally in Volunteerism
As a volunteer-based organization, Free Clinics of Iowa is already well-aware that Iowans willingly give of their time and talents to serve communities in need. A recently released national report confirms it. According to the Corporation for National and Community Services’ Volunteering in America report, the volunteer rate in Iowa ranks 2nd nationally. Between 2008 and 2010, the average national volunteer rate was 26.5%. Iowa’s volunteer rate was 37.9% second only to Utah. During that time frame, 93.4 million hours of contributed volunteer services in Iowa were provided and valued at $2 billion. Iowans spend most of their time volunteering in social service, education and religious environments.

FCI & AHEC Partner for Continuing Education & Volunteer Appreciation Event
On Saturday, August 6th Free Clinics of Iowa (FCI) and Central Iowa Area Health Education Center (CI AHEC) partnered to offer continuing education and volunteer appreciation events for FCI member volunteers throughout Iowa. During the afternoon, volunteers took advantage of educational opportunities in CPR/BLS certification/re-certification, Microsoft Excel training and/or Cultural Competence/Health Literacy lectures. Afterward, more than 75 free clinic volunteers gathered for a night at the ball park with pre-game picnic and Iowa Cubs game at Principal Park in Des Moines.
